Hilo in a day

Off ship to tour around one side of the big island of Hawaii.  It was a long and fact/fun filled day. First stop was at Volcanos  National Park where we were lucky enough to see lava splash. They said it's only the 2nd time in 8 years that it's been visible during the day. Next up steam vents, a volcano crater, and then a lava tube. We hiked down and walked through; it reminded Linda of Luray Caverns.  We also were lucky to see a few nene ( the state bird) and stopped at a lava field. Then we made stops at a macadamia nut farm and an orchid farm.  We drove through the banyan tree drive and a gorgeous park before stopping at rainbow falls.  Whew, great weather, great sites, great day!  Rushed back on ship for a fresh flower lei making class.  Now to rest.
